Charles Atkin: Profile
Chuck has advised federal and state government agencies on communication strategies for addressing health problems, including alcohol, drunk driving, tobacco, safety belts, nutrition, and breast cancer.

Frankin J. Boster: Profile
Frank has conducted two evaluations for Discovery Health Connection, both involving violence reduction programs. He is scheduled to conduct another in the autumn of 2006 on tobacco prevention.

Jill Elfenbein: Profile
As part of the ASC Creating Opportunities to Explore Diversity from Michigan to Mexico project, Jill and Mari Bolt worked with the Cristo Rey Community Center to inform the community about the need for adults and children to have their hearing screened.  They also provided the screening services (at the Cristo Rey Center and at migrant worker camps within a two-hour driving distance from campus). Jill is on the Board of Directors for the Lansing area chapter of Hands and Voices, an organization for parents of children with hearing losses. Jill works with them to develop/ disseminate messages on a variety of topics (e.g., genetics of hearing loss, treatment programs) to parents in Michigan.She is the editor of a joint newsletter for the four audiology special interest divisions of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. It often contains articles that focus on direct communication with patients/clients/students (depending on the clinical setting).

Peter LaPine: Profile
Peter is President, Mid Michigan Oral Cleft and Maxillofacial Consultation Clinic, EW Sparrow Hospital; Consultant Mid Michigan Ear, Nose and Throat, East Lansing; and he has developed, organized and directed 16 humanitarian projects in central Mexico and the Yucatan.

Teresa Mastin: Profile
Teresa is currently working with Flint Housing Commission’s Director of Resident Services to set up structured interviews and focus groups with overweight and obese female residents. The results will be used to develop educational materials specifically tailored to the needs of overweight and obese African Americans. The culture will be heavily infused in both individual and environmental strategies that are offered based on what is learned from the participants. The results will be shared with the participants, members of the health community that work with African American communities; the MI legislature, MI media, etc. A $25,000 FACT grant has made this outreach effort possible.

Jerry Punch: Profile
Jerry served as consultant to Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Training Council to develop hearing performance standard for police-officer candidates, 1991-1992; 2003; standard was adopted as state regulation and is currently in use in state of Michigan. He served as consultant to Michigan Department of Social Services, Hearing and Hearing Aid Reimbursement Program, Lansing, Michigan, to develop departmental reimbursement policy, 1993-1995. Member, Advisory Board for Occupational Noise-Induced Hearing Loss, State of Michigan, 1995-present. Jerry also served as consultant to SHL, private contractor with Commonwealth of Massachusetts, to evaluate hearing standards for police officers and firefighters, 2002. Served as consultant to law firm of Pyle, Rome, Lichten, & Eurenberg, P.C., Boston, MA, as expert witness in cases involving hearing loss and hearing aid use by a police-officer candidate and a veteran firefighter, January 1999-January 2002. Appeared numerous times on radio talk shows and featured in local TV appearances to discuss hearing loss and its management.

Nora Rifon: Profile
Nora is currently active disseminating information about risks associated with Internet privacy violations and working with the State of Michigan. She is applying her privacy expertise to usability and policy associated with electronic health records.   • Safety Assessment and Curriculum Development: A collaboration among Holt High School, Holt, Michigan, Office of the Attorney General, State of Michigan, and Nora J. Rifon, PI, 2003-2006.  The three year project is assessing student, teacher, and parent knowledge of Internet risks and protection methods, with the end goal of curriculum development.  The data collections will provide a proof of concept to seed external federal research funding.
  • Privacy Executive on Loan to the State of Michigan, 2004-2005.  She evaluated the State of Michigan's information practices and created a policy agenda for its improvement.  She surveyed heads of state agencies to evaluate their policies and procedures, and created a model of Information Privacy in State Government. The final report includes policy recommendations for the Governor. 
  • Privacy Forum Coordinator, “Information Privacy in State Government” for the MSU Institute for Public Policy and Social Research, May 2005. The forum held at the downtown Lansing State Legislator’s offices and attended by a range of state government officials.

Geri Alumit Zeldes: Profile
Geri served in 2002-2003 on the Regional Health Alliance-Calhoun County, MI. as a Communication Consultant; Developed a communication plan for the RHA, a consortium of public and private health care providers.
