Dr. Cooke is a certified Speech-Languge Pathologist and a
certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. His current research examines the extent of test anxiety (examinations and oral presentations) on campus, its impact on students' grades, and effective strategies to reduce test anxiety. Clinically, Dr. Cooke uses his training as a clinical hypnotherapist to facilitiate positive change in individuals with a variety of health issues, to include:
smoking, stress, unusual fears, test anxiety, obesity, and pain. In addition, he teaches CSD 453: Mind-Body Communication in the Spring Semester, a 3-credit elective open to all majors. Many class concepts relate to health issues including: the mind-body connection e.g. the placebo effect, self-fulfulling prophecy, self-talk, the power of prayer, and the law of attraction. Stress, how it impacts our bodies, and stress reduction strategies are emphasized.
