Research interests include hearing aid fitting procedures, hearing handicap, hearing conservation, the development of hearing performance standards, and the development and evaluation of low-cost hearing aids. Dr. Punch directs the Hearing Aid Research Laboratory, where he and his colleagues have recently investigated most comfortable and uncomfortable loudness levels, individual vs. group hearing-conservation training, and the reliability and clinical utility of the Multimedia Hearing Handicap Inventory. Dr. Punch is experienced in academic, administrative, and business settings, and served as departmental chairperson from 1994-2000. He consults as a forensic audiologist in cases involving hearing performance standards. He is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is the recipient of three research and service awards
